It's been a while since my last post but the weather has been pretty awful and progress rather slow. However, at least the new garage is now weathertight...
The first of the roof joists are installed, each one notched to suit. The levels on the existing house are all over the place.
The roof design is pretty straightforward so I can manufacture the trusses on site.
The first of the trusses is fixed in place for the brickies to build the gable...
...then I can complete the pitched roof.
Next I install the roof joists on the remainder of the garage roof and utility...
...and add firring strips to give the correct fall.
With some assistance from my dad the roof deck is installed.
Layboards are added...
...and the roof covering applied. Thanks again for my dad's help there, an 8m x 4m sheet of rubber weighs a fair bit.
Lead flashing completes the flat roof.
Finally I get the felt and battens on the pitched roof and we are watertight. Unfortunately, the manufacturer's have no stock of our roof tiles so we're in for a 2 week wait.
As it turns out, that might not be a problem as I've injured my back and will have to drop off the project for now. Looks like the week ahead will be filled with obtaining samples and telephoning suppliers. Just as the weather was picking up. Typical.
Judging from the way you built the garage roof on those pictures, you and your father handled the job pretty well. I really love to see how father and son can work it out together in a job like this. It seems it worked out pretty well for both of you. Well, get well soon. I hope you recover fast from your injury.

Aww. I’m a little sad that the tiles’ arrival was delayed. It kind of got the excitement hanging. He-he! Anyway, I love how you applied the roof covering. It looks perfect and flawless. I bet it’s going to look even better once the actual garage roof gets installed. Will wait for your next post! Hope there will be photos of your completed garage roof.

Looking good! Yeah, bad weather and roofing don't make a good match. But thankfully, everything is working out, and you're close to having a gorgeous roof deck. Sorry to hear about your back though! I hope you get to finish your deck pretty soon, and that the weather helps you out by cooperating!

I think it’s great that you decided to use a simple and straightforward roof design for your garage. That part of the house doesn’t need to be that extravagant, and simplicity can make the area look more appealing. Even though I cannot see the success of the installation, I say you guys did a great job!

How’s your back now? Although a garage is a relatively smaller space, you should still be careful at all times, if only to avoid accidents. Did you let someone else finish roofing the garage then? I hope he was able to execute your plans well. So, you wouldn’t have to fix and adjust things after. Keep safe!
